I’ve been photographing since I was 16 and I have come to love several pieces of equipment, so I’m sharing the cameras and lenses that I personally use here! This list will have everything from the most expensive to the least expensive, but they all help me run my business!
Canon R6 ii –
I personally love the mirrorless camera body! The focus is incredible, it’s lightweight, and it is so quiet! The r6 ii has two advantages over the r6i which I’m so glad they did! 1) The silent shutter is literally silent you can’t hear it at all! 2) you can switch back and forth between photo and video with just the flick of a switch! That’s much easier than having to turn a dial!
My First recommendation – Canon RF 50mm 1.8
The first lens I would buy if I’m just getting started and on a budget is referred to as the nifty 50! At only $200 it’s a GREAT lens! It is so lightweight and if you combine it with the r6ii you have a professional setup ready to go! I still use it today even though I have the upgraded one because it’s so light and compact!
Canon RF35mm F1.4 L
This lens pretty much never leaves my camera. I’m obsessed with it for weddings and families because it’s wide angle you can get lots of the background to tell the story!
I do have two alternatives – the Canon EF 35mm 1.4 which is the equivalent lens if you don’t have a mirrorless body and the Canon rf 35mm F1.8 – the aperture doesn’t go as low and the lens quality isn’t as high, but it’s $1,200 less expensive making it a really good choice!
Canon EF 85 mm 1.4 L
When I upgraded from my canon 5d mark iv to the canon r6 I already had a lot of EF lenses! So I bought an adapter and kept using the lenses. This one is my all time favorite portrait lens. The compression from the background is soooo dreamy I could absolutely die! Canon does make an RF version of this lens and I’ve heard it’s amazing, but I couldn’t justify the price tag when I already had one that works so well!
